Presentation: "How is the Regional Economy Doing, and How Do We Know"
Michael Boldin is a senior economic analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia with broad experience analyzing and reporting on the national and regional economies, explaining the interaction of financial markets and the business cycles, and using statistical software to construct econometric models for forecasting purposes. His expertise also extends to building both large and small databases for economic, financial market and company-level research.
Dr. Boldin received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. His fields of study where finance, monetary theory and industrial organization, and his dissertation was titled “Business Cycles and Stock Market Volatility: Theory and Evidence of Animal Spirits.” From 2008 to 2013, Dr. Boldin was an assistant professor in the finance department of the Fox School of Business and Management at Temple University. Besides teaching courses in general finance, fixed income and financial modelling, he inaugurated and managed their capital markets room that gives students hands-on experience using econometric software, financial market tools such as Bloomberg and Capital-IQ, learn stock and bond trading practices, and run business scenarios. From 2001 to 2008, Dr. Boldin was the director of research support services at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was responsible for leading various research and instructional technology-oriented projects. Prior to that appointment he served as director of business cycle research at the Conference Board and as an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
He has published in various economic and finance journals and presented his work at regional and national conferences, including the American Economic Association, Eastern Economic Association, NABE, and the Financial Management Association meetings.
